Biography
Already at the age of 8, Vasily Erofeev became a pupil of the Mountain Cadet Corps. In 1842, he graduated from the Institute of the Corps of Mining Engineers in St. Petersburg with the rank of lieutenant and with the rank of mining engineer, after which he continued his geological education in France.
Upon returning from abroad, Vasily Gavrilovich Erofeev worked at the Mining Institute, where he was a professor of paleontology for 18 years. In 1873, Erofeev joined the Mining Department with the rank of official of special assignments, and in 1881 he returned to the Mining Institute as a director.
V. G. Erofeev was among the initiators of the creation of the Imperial Geological Committee and in 1882 when the committee was created it became a member of the presence of the committee, and in 1883-1884 it was its director.
He died on December 17, 1884 .
Contribution to Science
Erofeev’s contribution to the discovery of rock salt deposits in the Slavic-Bakhmutskaya salt-bearing region near the village of Bryantsevka (now Soledar ) near the city of Bakhmut was most recognized [1] .
