- The Nizhny Novgorod diocese was established .
- Charles II published the Declaration of Tolerance in England .
- The beginning of the war of France and England against Holland, Spain and Brandenburg (“overbought” by the Dutch).
- The invasion of the French army of Turenne and Conde in the South Netherlands and Holland. The French captured a number of strong fortresses and invaded deep into Holland. The Dutch opened dams, and the sea flooded part of the country. The French are forced to retreat.
