The Occitan alphabet consists of 23 Latin letters:

The letters K , W, and Y are used only in loan words, such as whiskey, watt, Kenya . They can be included in the alphabet, located after J , V and X, respectively.

Usually the letters of the Okitan language are feminine. Elysia usually occurs before vowels.
Diacritical Marks
Diacritical marks are used to change the pronunciation of letters.
- Gravis (accent grèu) (_̀) is placed over à , è , ò .
- The Akut (accent agut) (_́) is placed above á , é , ó , í , ú .
- The dieresis (trèma) (¨) is placed over ï , ü .
- Cedilha (¸) is placed under ç .
- The interpoint (ponch interior, punt interior) (·) is placed between two consecutive consonants: n · h and s · h. It is used in the Gascon language. In the Middle Ages, the interpoint was used in all Occitan dialects.
Diacritical marks are required over capital letters, for example: :ndia, Àustria, Sant Çubran, FÒRÇA, SOÏSSA, IN · HÈRN.
