Title

The aul is named after a bai named Biyash [3] . In the sources there are other variants of the name of this settlement: Biash [2] , Biyashbai [3] .

Geography

Distance to the regional center : 221 km.

Distance to the district center : 28 km.

History

The aul was founded in 1861 by the Nogais of the Badayev aul of the Burkut cube [4] . As of 1909, together with the villages of Edinokt, Kenhe-Gali and Ungut belonged to the Burkut cube of the Achikulak police of the Bolshederbetovsky ulus [5] .

According to the census of 1908, there were 88 households in the aul (8 of them belonged to the Kenegesky cube, 5 to the Tumugaysky and 75 to Burkutsky) with a population of 342 people (199 men and 143 women), 86 adobe houses, 1 wagon , 23 barn and pantries, 73 other buildings, 14 wells (of which 1 - artesian , with fresh water, the remaining 13 - with salt water). Locals kept horses, cows, sheep and goats. In thirty farms there were plows, in eighteen - harrows, in eight - reapers, in five - lobogreys , in six - winders . Carts , carts, and sledges were used as "vehicles of transport." In Biyash there were an aul foreman with an assistant, a shoemaker and a saddler , as well as a mullah , akhun and a teacher [6] .

According to the 1920 census, the aul formed the Biyashinsky volost as part of the Achikulaksky district of the Holy Krestovsky district of the Stavropol province [5] .

As of January 1, 1927, there were 149 households in the village with a population of 531 people (275 men and 256 women), of which 312 were Nogais , 150 were Russian, and 69 were others. As of October 1, 1929, there was a school in Biyash. At that time, it was the administrative center of the Biyash village council (and the only settlement in its composition) in the Achikulak region of the Dagestan ASSR [7] .

Until May 1, 2017, it was part of the territory of the municipality “Rural Settlement of the Kara-Tyubinsky Village Council ” of the Neftekumsky District of the Stavropol Territory [8] .

The population of the aul is Nogai. For some time, Turkmens also lived here, who resettled in 1925 from the Terek district of the North Caucasus region [4] .

Religion

In the center of Biyash, opposite the school, kindergarten and post office, a mosque was erected (the building is 8 × 12.5 meters, can accommodate up to 120 parishioners) [10] [11] [12] .

Within the boundaries of the aul are 2 religious open cemeteries with an area of ​​25,314 m² and 35,000 m² [13] .

Monuments

On the territory of the aul there is an object of cultural heritage (historical monument) of regional significance "Mass grave of 15 Soviet soldiers who died in battles with the Nazis" (1942-1943, 1948) [14] .
