Name Etymology
The farm is named after the mound [3] , the name of which is based on the anthroponym Andrei [4] .
There are three versions where an attempt is made to explain the origin of such a seemingly strange name ... According to the first, the farm laborer Andrei, who was killed by his master, was buried on the mound. There is another version indicating that one khan, to find out how many subjects he has, ordered them to bring a handful of land, so a whole hill soon formed. Most likely the khan was not called that way, but the Russians could change the name to Andrei. There is also a legend that ataman Andrei Shchadryy, an associate of the famous Ermak , brought 300 people to Kuma and built the first Andreev settlement, traces of which are found in the Nogai steppes - “Andrei-Tyupe” (Andreev Hills).
- Gaazov V. L. "Stavropol and its environs. Stavropol Territory in names ” [3]
In the etymological dictionary of Nogai place names, compiled by M. A. Bulgarova, the origin of the name Andrei-Kurgan is explained by the fact that “in the past, a solemn meeting of the bailiff named Andrei was organized” [4] .
Other options for the name of the farm: Andrei Kurgan , Andrei Kurgan [2] .
