Biography

Born June 24, 1855 in the Vologda province in the family of a priest [1] .

In 1872 he graduated from St. Nicholas Theological College . In 1878 he graduated from the Vologda Theological Seminary . In 1883 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy with a degree of candidate of theology . Graduate student of the practical department [1] .

Since November 22, 1883 he taught at the Poshekhonsky Theological School of the Yaroslavl Diocese [1] .

March 31, 1885 ordained to the priesthood. On April 30, 1885, he was appointed rector of the Alexander Nevsky Church at the Yekaterinoslavsky Gymnasium. At the same time, from May 1, 1885, he served as the legal teacher of the Ekaterinoslav male and female gymnasiums and the Yekaterinoslav real school [1] .

On July 1, 1886 he was appointed the legal teacher of the Vologda Gymnasium and the Vologda Real School. At the same time, from December 5, 1887 to August 1, 1891, he was the law teacher of the Vologda Alexandria Orphanage for the Departments of the Institutions of Empress Maria Fedorovna . Zamaraev himself, the candidate of the Moscow Theological Academy, was at that time a type of completely deserted person. The case, due to the complexity and seriousness of the crimes, fell into the hands of the civil court prosecutor. Cruel punishment hung over Zamaraev’s head. Not bewildered, the latter, however, found a way out. Appearing to Archbishop Anthony , later the Kiev Metropolitan, he announced his desire to accept tonsure. <...> If Zamaraev had remained in the white clergy, he would have been disheartened and, if not sentenced to hard labor, he would have been sent to prison.

Hieromonk and Archimandrite

On September 13, 1911, he was enrolled in the brotherhood of the Kornilievo-Komelsky monastery of the Vologda diocese . March 17, 1912 was tonsured a monk with the name Alexy [2] .

September 21, 1912 he was appointed a teacher of accusatory theology , history and denunciation of the Old Believers and sectarianism of the Olonets Theological Seminary [4] . At the same time, on January 15, 1913, he was Acting Second Assistant Inspector of the Seminary [2] .

Upgrade

In 1922, he declined to renovationism and was appointed temporarily manager of the Bryansk renovation diocese [2] .

In April-May 1923 he was a member of the "Second All-Russian Local Council" [2] .

On August 21, 1923, he was appointed Bishop of Bryansk and Bezhitsky, Chairman of the Renovationist Bryansk Diocesan Administration, with the elevation to the rank of Archbishop. The department was located in the Transfiguration (Novopokrovsky) Cathedral of Bryansk [2] .

In June 1924 he was a member of the renovationist All-Russian Pre-Council meeting [2] .

On June 25, 1924, he was appointed Archbishop of Kaluga and Borovsky, Chairman of the Renovationist Kaluga Diocesan Administration. The department was located in the Annunciation Church of Kaluga [6] .

On December 9, 1924, he was appointed Archbishop of Tauride and Simferopol, Chairman of the Renovational Taurian Diocesan Administration. The department was located in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of Simferopol. In 1925 he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan [6] .

On June 23, 1925, he was appointed manager of the Crimean Metropolis with the title "Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimean" [6] .

In October 1925 he was a member of the Third All-Russian Local Council (second Renovationist), at which he was elected a member of the All-Russian Renovationist Synod [6] .

December 25, 1925 elected chairman of the renovational Crimean Metropolitan Church Administration [6] .

In October 1926 he was appointed Metropolitan of Tver, but did not accept the appointment [6] .

He died on April 18, 1927, not being reconciled with the Church [7] . He was buried in the lower church of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of Simferopol. September 19, 1930, in connection with the closing of the cathedral, was reburied at the new city cemetery in Simferopol [6] .
