Rusyns in Russia

Ruthenians in Russia are one of the small ethnic minorities in the Russian Federation .

Total number - 225 people (2010 census). Many Ruthenian organizations consider this figure to be clearly underestimated, since Ruthenians are currently considered part of the Ukrainian people, many descendants of Ruthenians (Carpathians, Rusnaks, Lemcs) do not indicate their Ruthenian ethnic origin. Rusyns in modern Russia live mainly in large cities and in areas that border Ukraine .

At the very beginning of the 19th century, a number of Ruthenian intellectuals who achieved fame in culture and science ( Ivan Orlai , Pyotr Lodiy , Vasily Kukolnik , Mikhail Baludyansky , Yuri Venelin ) moved to Russia from Transcarpathia (Subcarpathian Rus).

Currently, Ruthenian organizations exist in Moscow and in Rostov-on-Don .
