Biography

Born on August 4, 1892 in Koldromb ( German: Koldromb ), province of Posen . In 1911, he joined the German army. After the First World War he continued to serve in the Reichswehr ; from 1935 to 1939 he commanded the 17th artillery regiment. In 1939 he was promoted to major general and served as chief of staff of the military district, during the invasion of Poland he served as chief of staff in the center of the border sector. From 1939 to 1940 - quartermaster of the 18th Army .

In 1941, when attacking the USSR, he commanded the 45th Infantry Division , which stormed the Brest Fortress , then advanced in Polesie on the southern flank of Army Group Center and participated in the attack on Moscow . He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (December 27, 1941), in 1942 he was transferred to Slovakia to command the German occupation forces. From 1944 until the end of the war - head of the special staff.

After the war he lived in Nuremberg , until his death on June 4, 1977 .
