History

By the decree of Empress Catherine II of March 27, 1785, Slutsk became a department for the semi-independent Pereyaslav diocese for managing Orthodox parishes within the Commonwealth . The bishop's residence was established in the Slutsk Trinity Monastery . On April 13, 1793, after the Second Division of the Commonwealth and the accession of Slutsk to Russia, the Minsk Diocese was established instead of this department, but its center also remained in fact in Slutsk until 1799.

In February 1912, Archbishop of Minsk Mikhail (Temnorusov) , who was seriously ill and had difficulty performing administrative functions, asked the Holy Synod to appoint a vicar to help him, asking the Synod to establish a vicariate in the Minsk diocese with the name of bishop Slutsky and appointing instead of the ruling archbishop "Abbot of the Minsk Holy Spirit first-class non-communicative monastery, where he must have a seat." On February 23, 1912, in Tsarskoye Selo, Nicholas II signed a synodal petition, inscribing: “To be according to this” [2] .

It was cut short in 1933, however, it was reprimanded for a short time in 1941-1942.

On September 22, 2014, the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church appealed to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church with the request to form new dioceses within the Minsk Region, including Slutskaya [3] . On October 23, 2014, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, an independent Slutsk diocese was formed [1] .
