Biography

Jerzy Oleh was born on November 3, 1757 in the village of Shchepankovo ​​in a peasant family. After studying at a rural school, he entered the Koenigsberg gymnasium, where he studied theology from 1176 to 1780. He was a teacher at a church school at the Königsberg Cathedral . Since 1785 he was rector of the Polish Lutheran community at the Steindamm Church . Since 1786 he served as a military chaplain. Since 1797, he served as rector of the Polish seminary at the University of Koenigsberg . In 1797, together with Krzysztof Mragoviush Jerzy Olech made unsuccessful attempts to organize a department of the Polish language at the University of Koenigsberg. Since 1803 he served as an official translator for the city authorities.

Jerzy Olech maintained ties with the Polish scientific and cultural intelligentsia, including Samuel Linde , Julian Nemtsevich and Krzysztof Mragoviush .

Creativity

Jerzy Olech translated religious works from German into Polish and wrote religious poems for masurians. He translated the works of Ignatius Krasitsky into German.
