In 1838, at the invitation of Ferenc, Erkel arrived in Budapest as an accompanist of the National Theater , and soon began to perform also the duties of the conductor [1] .
In 1848, the opera Polovtsy ( Hungarian A kunok ; libretto by Franz Kirkhlener ) was staged on the stage of the National Theater - one of the first Hungarian national operas, which withstood 107 submissions (was resumed in 1902 , but removed from the repertoire after several performances) . In 1850 , the second opera of Chasar "Erzhebet Morginai" ( Hungarian Morsinai Erzsébet ) was released, sympathetically met with criticism, but could not be kept in the repertoire.
