The Diocese of Antwerp ( lat. Dioecesis Antverpiensis ) is the diocese of the Roman Catholic Church with its center in the city of Antwerp , Belgium . The diocese of Antwerp enters the Metropolis of Mechelen-Brussels . The cathedral of the diocese of Antwerp is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary .

History
On May 12, 1559, Pope Paul IV issued the Bull Super universas , which established the Diocese of Antwerp. On the same day, the Diocese of Antwerp entered the Metropolis of Mechelen (today the Metropolis of Mechelen-Brussels). On November 29, 1801, Pope Pius VII released the bull Qui Christi Domini , which he abolished the diocese of Antwerp.
On December 8, 1961, Pope John XXIII issued a bull, Christi Ecclesia , by which he restored the diocese of Antwerp.
