Biography
Gundoald came from the Agilolfing clan and was the brother of the Duke of Bavaria Grimoald I , the Duke of Bavaria Tassilon I and the Lombard Queen Theodelinda .
In 588, his older sister, Theodelinda, was remembered with the Outari King of the Lombards . The potential danger of the union of the Agilolfings with the Lombards provoked in 589 the invasion of the Franks in Bavaria. Theodelinda and Gundoald fled to Italy . There, on May 15, 589, the marriage of Theodelinda with King Autari [1] took place . Gundoald was endowed with the duchy of Asti and received the hand of the granddaughter of the Lombard king Wahoe. With her, he had two children: Gunpert and Aripert I.
Gundoald, as the father of Aripert I, was the founder of the Bavarian line of the Lombard kings [2] .
Gundoald was killed by an arrow in 616 .
