Hinduism in Singapore is practiced by 5.1% of the country's adult population (2010 census data). The first major wave of Indians arrived in Singapore at the beginning of the 19th century . These were the hired workers of the British East India Company , mainly from Tamil Nadu . Together with them they brought their religion and culture. With their arrival, Hindu temples built in the Dravidian architectural style appeared in the country. The first Hindu temple - Sri Mariamman Temple - appeared in Singapore in 1827. In a later period, wealthy Indian merchants and entrepreneurs played a prominent role in the development of Hinduism. Currently, there are about 30 Hindu temples in Singapore dedicated to various deities of the Hindu pantheon . There are two Singaporean Hindu government agencies in Singapore: the Hindu Endowments Board and the Hindu Advisory Board .
