The figure shows a hand holding a mirror ball. In the reflection, almost the entire room in which the painter is located is visible, it is also visible that the hand holding the ball belongs to Escher. In the reflection on the walls of the room are several paintings framed, on one of which is a puppet doll of the Indonesian shadow theater .
This lithography is Escher's most famous self-portrait , although several works depicting spherical reflective surfaces are found in his work. This self-portrait is different in that it creates the feeling that Escher is looking at himself point-blank, while in other works he is captured in the drawing process [1] ..
