Hinduism in India is practiced by 827,578,868 people, which makes up 80.5% of the total population of the country [1] [2] . The vast majority of Hindus in India belong to the faiths of Vaishnavism and Shaivism [3] .
History
Vedic civilization arose in India between 2000 and 1500 BC. e. [4] . As a result, Hinduism is considered the successor of the Vedic religion and has had a profound influence on the history, culture and philosophy of India [5] [6] .
2001 Census
According to the official census of India in 2001, the share of Hindus is 80.5% of the total population . In 1991-2001, there was a decrease in the share of Hindus in the state of Manipur from 57% to 46%, where the Sanamahi religion was revived. In addition to the Punjab ( Sikh majority), Kashmir ( Muslim majority) and large parts of Northeast India - Hindus make up the vast majority of the population [7] .
