Fordham Road (Concourse Line, A&N)

Fordham Road is a New York subway station located on the IND Concourse Line . The station is located in the Bronx , in Fordham County, at the intersection of the Grand Concourse with East Fordham Road . The station is served by two subway routes - B and D. Route B operates here only during peak hours, while D operates around the clock.

This station was opened on July 1, 1933 as part of the first stage of the IND Concourse Line . It is represented by two island platforms located on a three-track stretch of track. Lateral (local) tracks are used by trains B during peak hours and D all the time, except during peak hours in the peak direction. The central express route is used by D express during peak hours in the peak direction. The platforms are quite wide: the western (in Manhattan ) is even partially divided by a wall and in this section looks like two side platforms. All platforms are interconnected by aisles: stairs and a mezzanine.

This station is the largest on the line, due to the location in this area of ​​one of the largest shopping areas of New York , as well as the presence of a metro -North Railroad commuter train and numerous buses (including suburban). The main exit is located on the south end. It leads to the intersection of the Grand Concourse with East 188th Street . The second exit is located at the north end of the platforms and works only at certain times. The North Exit leads to the Grand Concourse junction with Fordham Road . However, the local side of the Manhattan platform does not have direct access to the second exit.
