The species lives in the following countries: Uzbekistan (the lower reaches of the Zarafshan River ), Tajikistan , Turkmenistan , China (Xinjiang). The subspecies Catocala timur richteri lives in Iran .
It inhabits tape turanga tugai forests , as well as groves along the bed of flat rivers [1] .
Develops in one generation in a year. Butterflies fly in June-July. Active at dusk and at night. After mating, eggs are laid by the female at night. Caterpillars develop on the poplar ( Populus pruinosa ) in April. Older caterpillars winter, which are then fed in April next year. Pupation occurs under the lagged bark of fodder trees in a loose cocoon [1] .
The abundance of the species is low everywhere.
The species is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan as a vulnerable, shrinking, locally widespread species.
