Biography
Representative of the famous Jewish Slonim family (see Family ). The son of a Warsaw doctor Stanislav Slonimsky . The elder brother of the poet and playwright Anthony Slonim . Father geneticist Peter Slonim .
He studied biology at the Lviv University of Jan Casimir . Then he worked at the Zoological Institute under the guidance of the famous evolutionary researcher I. Nusbaum-Gilarovich .
He took part in the First World War as part of the Polish Legions . After the war he was a teacher at the University of Warsaw .
Then - a participant in the Soviet-Polish war of 1920.
Member of the Polish Biological Society.
Member of the September 1939 campaign . During the German occupation of Warsaw, he taught at secret university courses.
As a doctor, he participated in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. He died with his wife during the fascist bombing of a medical hospital.
Scientific activity
He was engaged in studies of intravital staining of cells, the effect of thyroid hormones on the growth and development of vertebrates . The author of more than one hundred scientific publications, in particular, on the ecology and systematics of rotifers and trilacids .
