DistributionIt lives in Chile , Argentina and southern Uruguay .
LifestyleUninhabited places inhabit grassy pamps, rocks and adjacent forests . They feed mainly on plant foods, seeds of cultivated and wild plants, tree buds, fruits, berries and herbs. In the winter months they migrate to warmer northern regions, where there is much more food during this period.
ReproductionThey nest in hollows of trees or in niches of impregnable rocks. Often they dig a hole for a nest with powerful beaks. Sometimes the length of such a hole reaches 1 m. At the end of it is an extension for the nesting chamber. In clutch 2-4 white eggs . Incubation lasts 25 days. After 55-60 days, the chicks leave the nest.
ContentsThey are distinguished by attachment to a person, gullibility, they can learn to pronounce a few words. Nevertheless, this species has not gained much popularity. These parrots can often be seen in zoos, among amateurs - much less often. The reason for this is their rather sharp and loud voice. These parrots were brought to Europe in the second half of the 19th century .
