Slow Down is a 24-bar blues song written and recorded by Larry Williams . Released on a single in 1958, it became a hit in the rhythm and blues genre and influenced the growth of rock and roll popularity at that time. The single (at a speed of 45 rpm) recorded by Williams in 1958 included “ Dizzy Miss Lizzy ” on side “A” and “Slow Down” on side “B”. Both songs were subsequently repeatedly performed in cover versions by other artists, including The Beatles released their recordings, respectively, in 1965 and 1964.

The Beatles performed a cover version of the song in their performances before 1964, when they finally recorded the song on June 1, 1964 and released it in the UK on the Long Tall Sally mini-album on June 19, 1964. A little later, also in 1964, the song was released in the USA: in July 1964 - on the album Something New , in August 1964 - on the “B” side of the single “ Matchbox ”, which rose to 25th place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart . The Beatles also included the song in their collections Past Masters, Volume One (1988) and Live at the BBC (1994) (the latter in the version recorded on July 16, 1963 at the BBC Paris Theater in London [2] ).
Music critic Ian MacDonald criticized the performance of The Beatles for this song as “one of the least successful cover versions of The Beatles”, the lack of “foundation, drive and basic cohesion” ( English bottom, drive and basic cohesion ) and pointed out that “guitar Solo [Lennon] is uncomfortable and the balance of sound is destroyed. He also points to the remaining trace of inadvertent editing of the recording, where at 1:14 (1 minute 14 seconds from the start) for a moment, the sound of both the piano and McCartney's bass guitar disappears. [3] Ringo Starr is also heard to lose rhythm during a song. ( Starr can likewise be heard to lose time during the song. )
