Jose Carlos Mettidieri (born December 18, 1942 in Sorocaba , Brazil ) - American football player of Brazilian origin, a striker. He played professionally in Canada and the United States , where he was a NASL leading scorer in 1970/71 and was named the most valuable player in the league. The only player in league history who has received awards for two seasons in a row [1] . He also played two matches for the USA national football team in 1973.

Club career
Known as “Topolino” ( Russian Mouse ) due to his short stature (163 cm) and explosive speed on the field [2] , Methidieri started playing football professionally at the age of 16 when he moved from Brazil to Canada. He joined the Toronto Italia club from the East Canadian Professional Football League, where he became the league's top scorer in 1965 and 1966, and the most valuable player in 1966 [3] [4] . In 1967, he moved to Boston Rovers from the United Football Association. Later, the Los Angeles Wolves became a new club for him, where he played with his cousin Gilsson. It was for him the first season in NASL. After one season in Los Angeles, Metidieri moved to Rochester Lancers . He made his double with Lancers, for which he played four seasons. In 1971, the player became the MPV and the league's top scorer [5] . Mettidieri was the author of the winning goal in the longest official football game ever played in the history of American football, which lasted 176 minutes at Holleder Stadium against Dallas Tornado in 1971 [6] . Mettidieri scored 19 goals in 24 games in 1971. He ended his NASL career in 1974, playing for the Boston Minuteman . He also performed with great success in MISL from 1979 to 1980.
National Team
Methidieri played in two matches for the US team in 1973. His first game was a crushing loss 4-0 against Bermuda , March 17th. His second match also ended in defeat, this time Poland 4-0, March 20. He also played one unofficial match, where his team lost again 6-0 to Belgium , March 29 [7] .
After retirement
After leaving football, Metidieri lived in Rochester , New York , where he owned a pizzeria [8] . He later moved to Phoenix , Arizona [9] .
He currently lives with his wife and daughter in Gilbert , Arizona , and owns a Brazilian-Italian restaurant called Brazilia [10] [11] .
