History

On June 7, 1980, Pope John Paul II released the bull Venerabilibus Fratribus , which established the Diocese of Bubanza, separating it from the Diocese of Bujumbura (today - the Archdiocese). On the same day, the diocese of Bubanza entered the metropolis of Gitega .

On November 25, 2006, the Diocese of Bubanza entered the Metropolitanate of Bujumbura.

  • Bishop Evarist Ngoyangoye ( 06/07/1980 - 04/21/1997) - appointed bishop of Bujumbura;
  • Bishop Jean Ntagwarara (10.24.1997 - present).
