History
Bersa Thunder 9 is the development of the Model 90, the first pistol chambered for 9 mm Luger, developed by an Argentine company in 1989. In 1994, all Bersa pistols were renamed “Thunder” and the Model 90 was upgraded. The results of the upgrade were improved sights, ergonomics, low weight and increased magazine capacity. Then the gun became the successor of the series "Thunder".
Construction
Thunder 9 had little in common with other Bersa pistols, which are more similar to the Walther PPK, but it has some similarities with the Walther P88 , but the internal design of the gun is a modified version (with double-action trigger) Beretta M1951. Thunder 9 barrel is made of high strength steel. Frame made of aluminum alloy.
Service
In the late 1990s, Bersa signed a contract with the government of Argentina for the supply of pistols of the Bersa Thunder family to the 9 armed forces, police and other law enforcement agencies of the country [1] .
Argentina supplies armaments to African countries with an unstable domestic political situation [2] . So, it uses the Bersa Thunder 9 family with a 9 × 19 cartridge [3] .
