Aga-Batyr ( Osset. Agabatyry tsay [2] ) is a village [3] in the Kursk region of the Stavropol Territory of Russia . It is part of the Poltava Village Council [4] .

Geography
The village is located on the banks of the Kura River. The river was overgrown with reeds, the banks turned into a real swamp. Residents believe that the nearby Tersko-Kumsky canal also affects the water level in the river [5] .
It is located 21 km east of the Kursk regional center and 253 km southeast of the regional center of Stavropol .
History
It was formed as a farm in 1808 [6] . Known under the names Aga-Batyrsky , Aga-Batyr , Agabatyr , Agabatyrev [7] and others. For example, on the “Special Map of European Russia”, published under the direction of I. A. Strelbitsky in 1871 [8] , marked as Agabatyreva ; on the military topographic five-verst map of the Caucasus region in 1877 [9] , the road map of the Caucasus region in 1903 [10] - x. Aga-Batyrev ; on the topographic military map of 1941 of the Red Army of the South of Russia [11] - Aga-Batyr ; on the administrative map of the Stavropol Territory, compiled in 1957 [12] , and later maps - Aga-Batyr .
In the book of A. D. Tsagaeva “Toponymy of North Ossetia” (1975), the settlement Aghabatyra tsay (translated from the Osset. “Agabatyr farm”) is described, about which the following information is given: “This was one of the many farms around the city of Mozdok where Ossetians and Kabardians lived. It was founded by the Armenian Stepan Agabatyrov in 1808. After the Patriotic War of 1941-1945. it is completely empty ” [2] .
In the “List of Populated Places of the Terek Region (according to data as of July 1, 1914)” - an appendix to the “Terek Calendar” for 1915 - Agabatyr farm is listed in the village of Bolshe-Osetinsky, Mozdok department . It is indicated that the total land allotment of the farm was 1736 acres , it had 89 yards and 535 people lived. (280 men and 255 women). The national composition was represented by Armenians, Georgians , Ossetians and Circassians [13] .
In the "List of Populated Places of the Terek District according to the data as of January 1, 1927" one more variant of the name is given - Aga-Batyr . At that time, the farm was the administrative center of the Aga-Batyr village council of the Mozdok district . According to the 1926 All-Union Population Census, it consisted of 149 yards; the total number of residents was 641 people. (306 men and 335 women); the predominant nationality is Ossetians [6] .
During World War II, in the village of Aga-Batyr, which suffered from the actions of Hitler’s invaders, out of 140 houses only 12 remained suitable for housing [14] .
