Story

For many years, the estate of Senior Minister Jin Tsun has stood over the ancient protected lake with greenish waves - and for a thousand years, invisibly to people, the same carp has been splashing in the lake - the spirit of this lake, stealthily watching people.

A young schoolboy, Zhang Zhen, appears on the estate of the Minister. Once upon a time, even before his birth, his parents agreed to marry his son to the daughter of Minister Jin Mutan, but now the schoolboy has remained a poor orphan. At other times, Jin Tsun, who respects only money, would simply kick him out, but the minister needs to protect his reputation and he will compromise - he sets the condition for the schoolchild to achieve the highest degree of zhuangyuan , even provides him with a long-empty and dusty schoolhouse pavilion on the shore lakes for study.

Spring is ending, summer is passing, and autumn, and winter. All this time the schoolboy is alone in his pavilion; house servants bring him food, but nothing more; even they regard him as the lowest. The “named bride” does not even remember him. The only living creature he sees constantly is a fish jumping out of the water; gradually exhausted from loneliness, Zhang Zhen begins to talk to her and share her food with her.

The day is coming when the carp girl, who has fallen in love with a young man, having assumed the appearance of the young lady Jin Mutan, comes to him to express her love. The lovers begin to communicate, but alas, this leads to the fact that one day Zhen habitually addresses the young lady Jin, causing her anger and giving her father a reason to break off the engagement and knock him out of the house. His despair does not last long - the "bride" again catches up with him to walk together. But time passes, and at the festival the minister again sees him with "his daughter." The schoolboy was arrested, and he faces something more serious than expulsion, but suddenly he discovers two daughters instead of one. Neither the maidservants, nor the father and mother can distinguish which of them is real and which is a double; taking advantage of his position, the minister invites the famous Bao Zheng to his place - and in his house two judges of Bao almost collide against their foreheads ...

More effective is the challenge of the exorcist against the "evil spirit"; a heavenly army surrounds and neutralizes a fairy who has violated the prohibition of love between celestials and mortals, and her lake assistants. At the last moment, the Goddess of Mercy appears, giving the girl a choice - to remain a fairy and follow her to follow the law of heaven, or become a mortal man, having lost all magical abilities, for the sake of living with her beloved.
