Interesting Facts

  • Zaporizhzhya Metallurg is one of the few teams that spent all seasons of the Ukrainian championship (before this) in the Premier League, having flown out of it in the 2010/2011 season. For almost the entire season, the team fought for first place with Goverla-Zakarpatye , and only at the end of the championship the Cossacks lagged behind the Uzhgorod team, and Sevastopol , who was in third position, came close to Metallurg. Before the full-time meeting between Metallurg and Sevastopol, which took place in the penultimate, 33rd round, when Goverla-Zakarpatye already secured the championship, the advantage of the Cossacks was one point. The match, which took place in the Crimea, ended with the victory of Sevastopol with a score of 2: 1, while the forward goal of the “sailors” Sergey Kuznetsov scored with his hand. Following the results of this game, the Cossacks addressed a series of open letters to the leadership of Ukrainian football, demanding a replay, however, Metallurg won in the last round, and Sevastopol unexpectedly tied with Bukovina . Opponents eventually scored the same number of points, but thanks to the best difference between goals scored and goals conceded, Metallurg took second place, which allowed him to return to the Premier League
