Grigory Ivanovich Orlov ( 1685 , Tver province [1] - April 1 [12] 1746 , Moscow ) - military and statesman of the Russian Empire, Novgorod governor, current state adviser ( 1742 ); father of the Orlov brothers, associates of Empress Catherine II .

Biography

Born in 1685 in the Tver province; father - Ivan Ivanovich Orlov bore the rank of solicitor , died in 1693

Early enlisted in the military; participated in the Turkish and Swedish campaigns, distinguished himself in many battles. Having become personally known to the emperor, he received from him a portrait for wearing on a golden chain. In 1722 he was already a colonel in the Ingermanland Infantry Regiment . He performed various administrative tasks; December 27, 1735 ( January 7, 1736 ) was sent to Vyatka province to investigate the case of governor Chernyavsky , who was accused of bribes and other illegal acts.

Dismissed from military service on August 9 (20), 1738 with production as a major general .

On February 17 (28), 1742, he was appointed Governor of Novgorod with the rank of State Councilor.

He died on April 1 (12), 1746, was buried in Moscow, in the church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious, which was on Vspolye (the church was demolished in 1932, the grave was lost).
