Biography

Born July 29, 1902 in the family of a peasant-immigrant. In his native village he worked as a carpenter, builder. From the beginning of the war he went to the front.

Junior sergeant A. G. Ognev performed his main feat of the shooters of the 151st Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division while crossing the Dnieper in the area of ​​Navozy village ( Chernihiv region (Chernihiv region) , Chernihiv region ).

“He skillfully organized the crossing across the Dnieper ,” the award sheet says, “while showing heroism, courage and resourcefulness in the manufacture of the simplest crossing facilities. Despite the thirty-kilometer path traveled by the unit and the active operations of enemy aircraft, Ognev, putting himself in danger, managed to transport the personnel and the material part of the battalion, thereby ensuring the successful completion of the command's combat mission. ”

For this feat, Junior Sergeant A. G. Ognev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 16, 1943. He died in the Kiev region, near the village of Thick Forest on October 8, 1943 . He was buried at the railway station near the village of Yanov . A memorial plate is installed above the grave.
