Biography
Albert Goffa was born in (the British colony of Natal in South Africa). The son of a German doctor practicing in Pretoria . He spent his childhood in South Africa, then studied at the gymnasium in Kassel, studied medicine at the University of Marburg and in Freiburg . Since 1897, he was a professor at the University of Würzburg , where he also held a private orthopedic clinic. Since 1902 he worked in Berlin. Since 1892 he edited “Zeitschr. f. orthopädischen Chirurgie. " Died in Cologne ( Rhine Province , German Empire ).
Goffe owns a number of works on applied surgery and orthopedics, in which he especially developed the doctrine of scoliosis, and the treatment of curvature through special apparatuses; in the workshop organized at his clinic, many devices he had invented were made. He used massage and medical gymnastics with great success. His Lehrbuch der orthopädischen Chirurgie (Stuttg., 3rd ed., 1898) has been translated into many European languages.
