Sports career

She demonstrated her athletic talent in her school years, but World War II intervened in her career development. She was an active participant in the resistance movement. Only in 1944 she took part for the first time in the championship of the Netherlands, where she took fourth place in the 100-meter.

At the Summer Olympic Games in London (1948) in the individual standings at the 100-meter he reached the semifinals, while in the relay 4 × 100 m became the champion. In the individual event, she could not overcome the boundary of the semifinal.

In 1950 she was second in the relay 4 × 100 meters at the European Championships in Brussels. In 1952, to her disappointment, she was not selected to be part of the Olympic team for the Helsinki Summer Games (1952), followed by an injury - rupture of the Achilles tendon, which led to a drop in the starting speed of the athlete. As a result, she began to engage more actively in other sports, such as basketball.

At the end of her sports career, she switched to coaching. In 2004, she was one of the participants in the Olympic torch relay when she passed through Amsterdam.
