Biography
Mikhail Uglovsky was born on November 6 (19), 1911 in the village of Luzhevitsa, Veliky Ustyug district of the Vologda province (now the village of Veliky Ustyug district of the Vologda region of the Russian Federation ) in a peasant family. Russian . He graduated from primary school in the nearby village of Exhibit . He worked in a private farm. Since 1931 - in the farm "Good Way".
M. Uglovsky was drafted into the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army in 1933. Red Army officer M. N. Uglovsky served in the 1st Division of the 110th Artillery Regiment of the Volga Military District . After completing his military service, he remained on extra urgent. In the rank of senior lieutenant, he was sent to the 338th anti-tank artillery regiment of the 5th anti-tank artillery brigade of the 5th army of the Kiev Special Military District , where he was appointed senior adjutant of the artillery division.
In battles with the German fascist invaders, Senior Lieutenant M. N. Uglovsky from the first days of the war on the South-Western Front . Baptism of fire took in battles near Novograd Volynsky , where the 5th anti-tank artillery brigade covered the withdrawal of troops of the South-Western front of the river Sluch . For three days of fighting, the 338th anti-tank artillery brigade regiment repulsed 13 enemy attacks, destroying 27 tanks, 7 armored vehicles and about 150 vehicles. The division of Senior Lieutenant Uglovsky left the occupied lines one of the last, as a result of which he was surrounded. Until November 1941, Mikhail Nikolayevich was reported missing. After leaving the entourage, Senior Lieutenant M. N. Uglovsky was appointed commander of the artillery division of the 122-mm howitzers of the 817th artillery regiment of the 293rd rifle division of the 40th Army of the South-Western Front. In the winter of 1941–1942, Mikhail Nikolayevich participated in defensive battles in the Belgorod area. On January 8 and 9, 1942, Senior Lieutenant Uglovsky, with 3 122 mm howitzers, repelled attacks of German tanks in the area of the village of Murom (now a settlement in the Shebekinsky district of the Belgorod Region ) by ensuring the withdrawal of two rifle regiments and special units of the 2nd Guards Rifle Division to the previously prepared positions. During the period from December 27, 1941 to January 19, 1942, the division of Senior Lieutenant Uglovsky destroyed 4 tanks, 39 enemy machine guns, 8 guns, 13 mortars and to the infantry battalion. The fire of the division's guns suppressed 27 fire points, 4 mortars and 5 artillery pieces.
In April 1942, the 817th Artillery Regiment was transferred to the 76th Infantry Division of the 21st Army . In its composition, Mikhail Nikolayevich participated in the Kharkov operation . As a result of the German counterattack near Kharkov, the 21st army was forced to retreat to the Don and take up defenses in the area of the village of Kletskaya . As part of the South-Western Front of the 1st formation, the Stalingrad Front and the South-Western Front of the 2nd formation, the army held its lines during the Battle of Stalingrad until October 1942. By this time, the commander of the 2nd Artillery Division of the 817th Artillery Regiment MN Uglovsky was promoted to captain . In early October 1942, German troops attacked the positions of the 21st Army. On October 7, 1942, the 2nd Division of the 817th Artillery Regiment under the command of Captain Uglovsky repulsed a powerful enemy attack from the Podnizhniy farm (now the village of Kletsk district of the Volgograd region ). Nevertheless, the units of the 21st Army were forced to withdraw beyond the Don.
Before the beginning of the general counterattack of the Soviet troops at Stalingrad , the 21st Army was tasked with regaining a bridgehead on the right bank of the Don. On October 23, the 76th Infantry Division, in cooperation with the 278th Infantry Division, launched an offensive after artillery preparation and, after stubborn fighting, on October 25 captured the village of Kletskaya. During the breakthrough of the German defense, the division of Captain M. N. Uglovsky destroyed 7 machine-gun nests, 1 DZOT , 4 guns, 1 mortar battery and up to 175 enemy soldiers and officers. The division also suppressed the fire of 2 bunkers, 4 guns and 3 mortar batteries. After the liberation of the village, the Kletskaya division took up defensive positions at adjacent heights and repulsed 14 German counterattacks. For the difference in the breakthrough of enemy defenses, the 76th Infantry Division was transformed into the 51st Guards Infantry Division by order of the NKO USSR No. 375 dated November 23, 1942. The 817th Artillery Regiment received the honorary title of the 122nd Guards Artillery Regiment. At the final stage of the Battle of Stalingrad, Mikhail Nikolayevich, as part of the Don Front, participated in the operations "Uranus" and "Ring" . On the basis of the directive of the Supreme Command Headquarters of April 16, 1943, for the difference in the course of the Battle of Stalingrad, the 21st Army was reorganized into the 6th Guards Army . May 1, 1943 she was incorporated into the Voronezh Front and began preparations for the Battle of Kursk . Mikhail Nikolayevich, who had received the rank of major by that time, was appointed commander of the 122nd guards artillery regiment of the 51st guards rifle division.
Before the beginning of the Battle of Kursk, the 51st Guards Rifle Division occupied defenses on the southern face of the Kursk Bulge in the Oboyan region. The 122nd Guards Artillery Regiment of Guards Major M.N. Uglovsky held positions near the village of Yakovlevo, Belgorod Region. At noon on July 7, 1943, the positions of the 122nd Guards Artillery Regiment were attacked by German forces with up to 100 tanks and 2 infantry battalions. From the air, the offensive supported up to 50 German attack aircraft. During the battle, 25 German tanks, supported by a platoon of infantry, managed to reach the flank of the 1st division of the regiment, creating a threat to its surroundings. Guards Major M. N. Uglovsky arrived at the position of the division at the most difficult moment and personally supervised the attack of the enemy. When the death of the hero fell, the gunner of the guard of the junior sergeant A.A. Vlasov , Mikhail Nikolayevich himself rose to the gun and destroyed 3 German tanks, including one "Tiger" .
July 8, 1943 29 German tanks broke through to the positions of the 4th battery in the area of the village of Pokrovka (now the village of Ivnyansky district, Belgorod region) and surrounded it. Having removed the 5th battery from the positions in the area of the village of Bolshaya Mayachki (now the village of Rozhdestvenka, Ivnyansky District, Belgorod Region), Major M.N. Uglovsky’s Guard counterattacked the enemy, and advanced the guns on direct fire, destroyed several tanks, forcing the rest to retreat. During the battle, Mikhail Nikolayevich again got up to the gun and personally knocked out 4 German tanks.
During the period from July 5 to July 12, the regiment of the Guard Major Uglovsky destroyed 107 enemy tanks, up to 100 vehicles with ammunition, 60 light machine guns and about 5,300 soldiers and officers of the enemy. From August 3, 1943, the 122nd Guards Artillery Regiment participated in the Belgorod-Kharkov operation and within a few days of the offensive it fought over 100 kilometers. On August 8, 1943, in the area of the village of Snegi of the Zolochevsky district of the Kharkiv region, a car of the guard Major M.N. Uglovsky fell under bombing. Mikhail Nikolayevich was seriously wounded by a shell fragment and died half an hour later. He was buried in the village of Uda, Zolochiv district, Kharkiv region of Ukraine .
On September 21, 1943, the guards major Mikhail Nikolayevich Uglovsky decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously.
