Panos Kammenos ( Greek Πάνος Καμμένος , full name Panayiotis Ilia Kammenos , Greek Παναγιώτης Ηλία Καμμένος ; May 12, 1965, Athens , Greece ) - Greek politician, founder of the right-wing political party Independent Greeks .

Biography
Panos Kammenos studied economics and psychology at the Lyon School of Management (EMLYON Business School) in Switzerland (Geneva) . In 1993, he was first elected to the Greek Parliament from the New Democracy party in the second constituency of Athens [1] . Since then, every time he was re-elected.
In 2007, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Merchant Fleet and Island Policy Georgios Vulgarakis in the government of Kostas Karamanlis . Several times participated as an expert mediator and official observer in elections in other European countries.
On February 24, 2012, on his personal website and through social networks, Panos Kammenos announced the creation of a new party called “ Independent Greeks ” and published a party declaration [2] . Yannis Manolis bluntly stated his intention to enter the new format of the party. Later, Elena Kunturas and Panagiotis Melas spoke in support of the party. The party first participated in the early parliamentary elections on May 6, 2012 and immediately overcame the 3 percent barrier [3] .
On January 27, 2015, he was appointed Minister of National Defense in the Government of Tsipras .
Awards and honors
Panos Kammenos was awarded the Grand Cross for Merit by the Czech Patriarchate, the Order of Honor from the Jerusalem Patriarchate and the National Order of Merit by French President Nicolas Sarkozy .
