Biography

Boris Vasilyev-Kytin was born on August 4, 1923 in Astrakhan in a working class family. He graduated from elementary school, worked at a cooperage plant. In February 1942, he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Since April 12, 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By April 1944, Lieutenant Boris Vasiliev-Kytin commanded a platoon of the 105th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 34th Guards Rifle Division of the 46th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . Distinguished himself during the forcing of the Dniester [1] .

On April 17, 1944, Vasiliev, with a group of 10 men, seized a bridgehead on the right bank of the Dniester in the region of the village of Raskaetsy, Suvorov district, Moldavian SSR . The battle with counterattacking units of the enemy lasted for 36 hours. The group managed to gain a foothold at the height and beat off 17 counterattacks, twice even going over to the counterattack itself. In battles, the enemy suffered heavy casualties. Vasiliev-Kytin was injured, but did not leave the battlefield, continuing to lead the group's actions and personally raising his fighters to the attack. Despite the numerical superiority of the enemy, the group managed to maintain combat positions until reinforcements arrived [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1944, Lieutenant Boris Vasiliev-Kytin, among all the participants in those battles, was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 4932 [1] .

In 1946, Vasiliev-Kytin was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in Astrakhan. He died on May 6, 1987, is buried in the New cemetery of Astrakhan [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two orders of the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
