Kuznetsov, Nikolai Yakovlevich

Nikolai Yakovlevich Kuznetsov (1873-1948) - Russian and Soviet entomologist and physiologist, lepidopterologist and zoogeographer, member of the board of the Russian Entomological Society (since 1910) [1] , professor of Leningrad State University , author of the isolationist theory of depletion of the lepidopteran fauna of the Black Sea Caucasus and Crimea, one from the authors of the Fundamentals of the Physiology of Insects (1948-1953), described a number of butterfly taxa new to science [2] .

Biography

Born on May 11 (May 23), 1873 in St. Petersburg [2] .

  • 1895 - graduated from the course of the natural history department of the phys.-mat. Faculty of St. Petersburg University . Later he worked there as a prospector at the Department of Physiology and Comparative Anatomy, since 1917 - senior zoologist at the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. He also lectured on entomology at higher female courses in St. Petersburg [3] .
  • 1905 - Head of the Lepidoptera Department at the Zoological Museum of the Imperial Academy of Sciences (later the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, now ZIN RAS).
  • 1927 - Professor at the Institute of Applied Zoology and Phytopathology .
  • 1931 - Professor of Leningrad State University .
  • 1934-1937 - Professor of the Leningrad Agricultural Institute .

He died on April 8, 1948 in Leningrad [2] .
