Biography

Nikolai Vasiliev was born on February 9 (in a new style - February 22 ), 1912 in Moscow in a working class family. He graduated from three courses of the Moscow Engineering College , after which he worked at the Mekhantrud industrial cooperation plant. In 1930, Vasiliev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1931 he graduated from the Leningrad Military Theoretical School of Pilots , in 1932 - from the Voroshilovgrad Military Aviation School. He worked at the school of civilian air fleet pilots, was an instructor, then a flight commander in the Kuibyshev Aero Club. In 1939, Vasiliev joined the CPSU (b) . Since June 1944 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

Towards the end of the war, Captain Nikolai Vasiliev commanded the squadron of the 594th assault air regiment of the 332th assault air division of the 4th Air Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front . During the war, Vasiliev made a total of 105 sorties, during which he destroyed 21 tanks , more than 170 vehicles, shot down 1 aircraft [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, Captain Nikolai Vasiliev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal for "exemplary performance of command missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism" " Under the number 9027 [1] .

After the war, Vasiliev continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1953, he graduated from advanced training courses for commanders of the air forces. In 1955, with the rank of Major, Vasiliev was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Kuibyshev (now Samara), in 1962 he graduated from the Kuibyshev regional party school, worked in the district executive committee of working people's deputies.

He died on March 22, 1995, was buried in Samara [1] .

He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , the Order of Alexander Nevsky , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, as well as a number of medals [1] .
