History

Alexander McQueen House was founded by designer McQueen in 1992 [2] . McQueen used his middle name for the label at the suggestion of Isabella Blow [3] . The house was credited with its early shocking collections (which earned him the nicknames “l'enfant terrible” and “English fashion bully”), in particular with bumpers with a very low waistline and a collection called Highland Rape (“ Rape Scotland ") [4] [5] . Alexander McQueen organized expensive and non-standard displays, such as reconstructing a shipwreck for the 2003 spring collection, playing chess with people in the spring of 2005, and showing the fall collection in 2006, Widows of Culloden, in which the hologram of the supermodel was involved Kate Moss in human height, dressed in yards of undulating fabric [6] .

As the chief designer of the house, McQueen was awarded the title “British Designer of the Year” four times between 1996 and 2003 [7] ; he also became commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and was named International Designer of the Year by the American Council of Fashion Designers in 2003 [8] .

In December 2000, the Gucci group acquired 51% of the fashion house and appointed McQueen as creative director [9] . Subsequently, brand stores were opened in London, Milan, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Beijing. Starting with the Spring / Summer 2002 collection The Dance of the Twisted Bull , presented in October 2001, McQueen shows were moved from London to Paris [10] .

Alexander McQueen launched his first collection of men's clothing in the spring / summer 2005 season [11] and continues to show these collections at Milan Fashion Week . The company launched its first women's spring collection along with the men's collection in June 2008 [12] and has since continued to produce cruise collections since the spring of 2010 [13] .

Alexander McQueen went into e-commerce by launching an online store in the USA in 2008 [14] . Later it expanded to the British market in 2010 [15] . In February 2010, McQueen committed suicide. [16] At the time of his death, the company had debts amounting to 32 million pounds [17] [18] , despite the declared profits from the sale of bags in 2008 [19] .
