Since Tsar Plistoanakt , nominally commanding the army, was still young, in fact, the Spartans were commanded by Cleandrid. Upon learning of this, Pericles bribed him so that the Spartans left Attica. In the homeland of his father Gilippus was sentenced to death [1] , and he fled to Furies [2] .
In 415 BC e. Giliippus was sent to Sicily to help the Syracusans besieged by the Athenians. Leading the defense of Syracuse, Gilippe in 413 BC forced the Athenians to surrender, which led to the collapse of their entire Sicilian expedition .
At the end of the Peloponnesian war, Gilippus was convicted of stealing a huge amount of 300 talents and was forced to leave, like his father, in exile [3] . In Sparta, he was sentenced to death in absentia.
