Biography

Born in 1816 .

He was educated in the 1st cadet corps, from which he was released on April 6, 1835 as an ensign in the infantry regiment of the Dibich-Zabalkansky regiment .

In 1848, Gervais received the rank of major and in 1849 took part in the Hungarian campaign , distinguished himself in the battle at the TisafΓΌred crossing.

In 1853 he was appointed interim commander of the Zhytomyr Infantry Regiment , at the head of which he took part in the campaign against the Turks on the Danube , and was under siege of Silistra . May 10, 1854 promoted to lieutenant colonel. Then he was in the Poltava Infantry Regiment , was in the Crimea , where he fought against the Anglo-French and participated in the defense of Sevastopol . He received several awards for military distinctions and was promoted to colonel on August 21, 1855.

On January 12, 1856, Gervais was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree

 For a special difference in the repulsion of the French assault on the Schwartz redoubt on August 27, 1855. 

In 1863, Gervais was appointed commander of the 60th Infantry Regiment of Zamosc .

In 1869 he was promoted to major general and appointed assistant chief of the 23rd Infantry Division .

He died on January 5, 1870.

Rewards

Among other awards, Gervais had orders:

  • Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree (1852, the imperial crown was granted to this order in 1859)
  • Order of St. George of the 4th degree (January 12, 1856, No. 9892 according to the cavalier list of Grigorovich - Stepanov)
  • Order of St. Vladimir 3rd degree (1864)
