Coat of Arms History

The first coat of arms of the city of Belaya was granted on May 2, 1625 by the Polish king Sigismund III , while the city was captured by the Poles and, in accordance with the peace treaty of 1618, remained part of Poland. The coat of arms had the following description: in a silver field, Virgin Mary with baby Jesus .

The original description of the coat of arms of the city of Bely stated:

“Two white bags with flour, tied with gold cords, in the green field, letting you know that a great bargain is being done at this noble marina for these products.”
In the upper part of the shield is the coat of arms of Smolensk : “In a silver field on green ground, a cannon with a bird of paradise sitting on it . ”

The project of the coat of arms of White 1863

In 1863, during the Köhne heraldic reform, a draft of the new coat of arms of the county town of Bely was developed (not officially approved):

“In a green field there is a silver fork-shaped cross, in the corners of which there are 3 golden ears, in the free part is the coat of arms of Smolensk province. The shield is crowned with a silver walled crown and is surrounded by golden ears of corn connected by the Alexander ribbon . ”

In the Soviet period, the coat of arms of Bely (1780) was not used.

On June 23, 2002, the emblem of Bely and the Belsky district was approved, which almost completely repeats the composition of the historical emblem of the city of Bely in 1780, but unlike it does not have an explicit division into the upper and lower parts, and forms a single picture .
