History
The first paper money in a Portuguese colony was issued in 1842–1843, and it was issued by the tenant C. Nazolini with the permission of the governor of the colony.
In 1865, a branch of the National Overseas Bank was opened on the island of Santiago . In 1897, the production of banknotes began.
Government Decree of September 18, 1913 No. 141 from January 1, 1914 on Portuguese colonies ( Cape Verde , Portuguese Guinea , Sao Tome and Principe , Angola and Mozambique ) extended the decree of May 22, 1911 to introduce a new real monetary unit - escudo (1000 reais = 1 escudo).
New banknotes were launched in 1914, coins in 1930. Banknotes and real coins continued to be used in circulation and were gradually replaced by banknotes in escudos and centavos.
July 1 in Cape Verde introduced a national currency - the escudo of Cape Verde , the exchange was made 1: 1.

Banknotes were issued in 4, 5, 10, 20, 50 centavos, 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 escudos [2] .
