Kerenchich, Jozhe

Jozhe Jožević Kerenčić ( Slovenian. Jože Jožeta Kerenčič , Serb. Јože Jozhet Kerenčić ; March 9, 1913 , Yastrebtsy - December 27, 1941 , Maribor ) is a Yugoslav Slovenian writer and publicist, activist of the Liberation Front of Slovenia during the Second World War. People's hero of Yugoslavia (posthumous).

Biography

He graduated from elementary school in Koga, then entered Maribor High School. As a student, he joined the Union of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia . Later he entered the University of Ljubljana, where he graduated in 1937 from the faculty of philosophy and pedagogy. In the fall of 1940, he got a job at the Gorney-Radoni school. By that time, had already written several books. He wrote mainly works about the inhabitants of Slovenian Gorica, became famous for his studies of the romance of rural realism. In his work, he describes his bitter days of youth, reveals the grief of his Slovenian people and shows his desire to fight for justice and freedom of the Slovenian people.

In the summer of 1941, after Slovenia joined the Reich, he went underground, where he took up anti-fascist agitation. In his house, numerous congresses of the Liberation Front of Slovenia were held. In the early summer of 1941, he moved to Pesnitsa pri Maribor, but he was soon extradited. On November 17, 1941 , the Gestapo arrested him, and on December 27, 1941 they shot him. Before his death, he refused to extradite his associates and said: "I am dying for freedom and the best days of my people." November 27, 1953 posthumously awarded the title of People's Hero of Yugoslavia.
