Biography

Born in the family of the Lithuanian prince Gerden .

In 1264, he converted to Orthodoxy, tonsured monasticism, and was appointed hegumen of the Tver Mother of God Monastery.

In 1289, he was ordained in Kiev by Metropolitan Maxim as bishop of Tver.

In 1290, he consecrated a temple in Tver in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord .

In 1293, on behalf of the Grand Duke of Vladimir Dmitry Alexandrovich, he went to Torzhok to negotiate peace with the brother of the Grand Duke Andrei Alexandrovich .

In 1295 he crowned in Tver the Grand Duke of Vladimir and Tver Mikhail Yaroslavich .

In 1300 he participated in the ordination of the Novgorod archimandrite Theoktist .

Around 1311, he wrote a letter to Constantinople to Patriarch Athanasius , in which he accused Peter , Metropolitan of All Russia, in symony (duties), and asked to parse and resolve this issue.

The Patriarch sent his representative to Russia to review the case. Around 1311, Pereslavl Cathedral was assembled, at which the clergyman of the patriarch took the side of Metropolitan Peter.

Bishop Andrei of Tver and his associates did not arrange the answers and the decision of the clergyman of the Patriarch Athanasius, then they sent to Constantinople the monk of the Tver Mother of God Monastery of Akindin, apparently to find out the opinion of the patriarch. Monk Akindin arrived in Constantinople when Niphon I became the patriarch, and Patriarch Athanasius I had already died, without waiting for the decisions of the Pereslavl Cathedral. Monk Akindin was present at the large local cathedral, where in addition to the patriarch of Constantinople Nifont I, there was also the patriarch of Jerusalem Athanasius III and 36 metropolitans. Monk Akindin himself addressed the question of the duties imposed to the patriarch and received an answer that was in agreement with the opinion of Bishop Andrei [2] . From Patriarch Nifont, a mission was brought to Grand Duke Mikhail - "The Message of Nifont Patriarch Konstantin Grad, to Grand Duke Mikhail of All Russia." [3] , in which, on behalf of the cathedral, he forbade duties and wrote about Metropolitan Peter:

Metropolitan does even worse than that - he bribes bribes from setting, as if he is eating, sells the grace of the Holy Spirit. [2]

The monk Akindin himself wrote a formidable essay in denunciation of the symony "The Writing of Akindin, many of the Holy Virgin Mary laurels, to Grand Duke Mikhail, about delivering bribes for the sake of."

March 28, 1316 retired.

He died in 1323. He was buried in the Transfiguration Cathedral.
