When the planet Lorien was captured by the Mogadors, nine Guardsmen were sent to Earth along with their Chepan (mentors) on a spaceship. On Earth, they split up and headed in different directions, since all the Guardsmen were bound by a powerful spell, thanks to which the Mogadors could not kill them in the order of their numbers, from the first to the ninth, while the Guardsmen lived alone, not united with each other. As it turned out in the second book, The Power of Six , these nine members of the Guard were chosen to subsequently destroy all the Mogadors, revive their planet Lorien and become nine Elders. And if they reach adulthood and do not die at the hands of the Mogadors, then in the future they will gain a strength that Lorien did not know before.
