It originates in the mountains in the southwest of Lane County, 16 km west of the town of Cottage Grove. Flows mainly in the western and north-western directions. It flows through the city Suishom. It falls into the Pacific Ocean near the city of Florence. In the lower reaches of the river flows through the national forest Siuslow. Previously, the river was a spawning ground for chinook and coho salmon . While the local population of Chinook and today is quite significant, the coho salmon population decreased from about 209 thousand individuals in the 90s of the XIX century to 3 thousand individuals in the 90s of the XX century [5] . Swamps near the mouth of the river are home to many migratory birds. The Siouslow Valley was previously a popular logging site.
