American Cameramen Society

The American Society of Cinematographers [1] (in the Russian translation also known as the American Society of Cinematographers [2] ) ( English American Society of Cinematographers; ASC ) is an educational, cultural, professional organization founded in 1919 and still existing. The oldest and most honored society of cameramen [3] .

Description

ASC was formed on January 8, 1919 by the merger of the organizations Cinema Camera Club and Static Club of America [4] .

It is neither a trade union , nor a guild ; only cameramen and experts in special effects , at the invitation of existing members, can become members. As of June 2012, the Society has 302 filmmakers (their number is constantly growing) and more than 150 associate members [5] , the president (from June 6, 2012) is Stephen Lighthill ( English Stephen Lighthill ) [6] . Member of the Society has the right to add ASC letters after his name in film credits

Publications

  • American Cinematographer Magazine has been published from November 1, 1920 to the present.
  • The American Cinematographer Manual [8] is the first publication in 1935 entitled The American Cinematographer Hand Book and Reference Guide . Reprinted 9 times until the end of the 1950s, in 1960 appeared under the current name American Cinematographer Manual , by 2004 it had already passed 9 reprints.
