Konstantin Ivanovich Konichev ( February 13 [26], 1904 , the village of Popovskaya , Vologda Province - May 2, 1971 , Leningrad ) is a Russian Soviet writer and journalist, folklorist. Editor of the publishing house in Arkhangelsk , headed the local branch of the Union of Writers of the USSR , edited the almanac "North". In 1952-1953 - the chief editor of Lenizdat . The main themes of the writer's works are the Russian North , the fate of its historical figures. The author of a series of historical and biographical books about M. V. Lomonosov , sculptor Fedot Shubin , architect Andrei Voronikhin , artist Vasily Vereshchagin , publisher I. D. Sytin and others. Biography
Born into a peasant family in the village of Popovskaya, Ustyanskaya volost, Vologda province (now the Ust-Kubinsky district, Vologda region ). Early left an orphan, brought up by a guardian.
From childhood, he began to work, studied shoe work , worked in the field, in the forest, tried all the peasant affairs. In 1911, he was sent to study at the Korovinsky parish school , and after 3 years he graduated from it as the best student, having received books from the teacher for this.
As a teenager he worked as a shoemaker, but all this time he had never forgotten about the book, he read to the villagers newspapers that sometimes ended up in the village.
After the end of the Civil War, he returned to his native land and again went into boot-making. In my free time I tried to write poems, feuilleton, essays, notes, some of which were published on the pages of the Red Severin newspaper . He was one of the founders of the local Selkor movement.
In 1923, Selkor Konichev joined the Komsomol , worked in a comedian , a hut in Ust'ye -Kubinsky — was in charge of a reading hut (1924-1925). He served in special units (CHON) , then entered the Sovpartshkola. He moved several times - from Vologda to Syktyvkar , from Syktyvkar to Arkhangelsk . In 1926 he joined the CPSU (b) .
In 1929, the first book by Konstantin Konichev, “Country Trails,” was published. Then new books “Following the Traces of Youth”, “Forest Story”, essays “Fighting Days” (about the civil war in the North) and “For Homeland” - about the hero-border guard Andrei Korobitsyn appear .
While working in the Arkhangelsk GPU (1932), he was the “boss” of the exiled Leonid Martynov . [2]
In 1935-1941 he worked at the Arkhangelsk Regional Publishing House as an editor and at the same time authorized representative of the Union of Soviet Writers , edited the almanac "North". In the same years he studied in absentia and in 1940 he graduated from the M. Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow .
During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, Konstantin Konichev participated in military operations in all directions of the Karelian Front and in the Far East . [3]
In 1946-1951 - editor of the Arkhangelsk publishing house.
After moving to Leningrad, in 1951-1952 - editor-in-chief of Lenizdat . And from 1953 until the end of his life, Konstantin Ivanovich was busy only with literary and creative work. He lived in a small apartment on Palace Embankment , but spent most of his time on creative trips around the Soviet Union , and also visited many foreign countries. I went to Egypt , Greece , where I was in Athens , Delphi , Corinth , Sparta . The result of this trip was the book “On the Roads of Hellas”.
The most impressive and fruitful trip was to equatorial Africa - to Niger , Togo , Upper Volta , Dahomey , Gabon . In the book “Where the fetters of slavery are torn,” the writer talked about his meeting with the famous doctor and scientist Albert Schweitzer , who also did not forget his Russian guest and wrote the following to Russia in March 1962:
Tell Mr. Konichev that I am touched by the greeting that he sent me and to which I reply with a sincere greeting. We have kept good memories of him [4] .
Konstantin Konichev died on May 2, 1971, was buried in Leningrad at the Theological Cemetery . [5]

He was awarded two orders of the Red Star , the medal " For Military Merit ", etc.
Legacy
The library of Konstantin Konichev totaled over 4,000 volumes - books on the era of Peter I, the Russian North and ancient monasteries, collections of oral folklore and scientific works on folklore, art studies and memoirs. Bookplates for the book collection of the writer were created by the famous Leningrad artist V. A. Menshikov (1901-1978).
Documents of a writer of personal origin are stored in the State Archives of the Vologda Oblast (GAVO) [6] .

- Since 1971, the Ust-Cuban Library bears the name of the fellow writer Konstantin Ivanovich Konichev.
- January 23, 1975 Nagornaya street in the October village of Vologda was renamed Konicheva street . [5]
