Biography
Ivan Vasiliev was born on November 10, 1906 in the village of Vyshegorod (now the Dedovichi district of the Pskov region ) into a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of the school, worked in his native village. In 1931, Vasiliev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In the same year he joined the CPSU (b) . In 1934, Vasiliev graduated from the Leningrad Infantry School, then armored training courses for officers. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By June 1944, Lt. Col. Ivan Vasiliev commanded the 713th self-propelled artillery regiment of the 29th Rifle Corps of the 48th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
On June 24-29, 1944, Vasiliev’s regiment crossed the Drut river in the Rogachev area and captured the river crossings of the Dobosna and Berezina rivers , which facilitated the successful exit of the 48th Army to the approaches to Bobruisk . In battles, the Vasiliev regiment destroyed about 30 tanks and assault guns, more than 40 artillery guns, as well as a large number of other military equipment and enemy manpower [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 22, 1944, Lt. Col. Ivan Vasiliev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Vasiliev continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1946, he graduated from advanced training courses for officers at the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Forces. In 1956, with the rank of colonel, Vasiliev was sacked. He lived in the village of Pesochny in the Sestroretsk region, died on July 5, 1962, and was buried in the village of Pesochny in the Sestroretsk region of the Leningrad Region (now St. Petersburg) [1] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, three orders of the Red Banner , orders of Alexander Nevsky and the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
