General Information
Kenny is married. His chosen one is Anita Gabrielsson.
In parallel to his racing career, the Swede organized his own rock band Braque, taking the place of one of the guitarists in it. The lead singer of the group is Frank Aledia. The team has repeatedly performed at concert events taking place in the weekend of motorsport competitions. In 2007, the band released their debut album, Greatest hits. Part1 ". One of the songs from the album - “Legend of the speedway” - was dedicated to AJ Voith . [2]
Kenny is a member of the board of directors of Mekonomen (the largest distributor of auto parts in Scandinavia , listed on the Swedish stock exchange).
Sports career
Early years
Kenny has been driving since she was six years old. He conducted his first experiments in driving a car under the supervision of his father. At 13, the Swede received his first car as a present (green Saab V4) - a neighbor who observed the first steps in the growth of professional skills of the young pilot decided to support the young talent. A year later, Braque first raced on special rally tires. For some time, having competed with peers on local roads, Kenny decided to try his hand at professional motorsport.
A short karting career began with the support of the same neighbor. However, soon the money and enthusiasm ran out and Kenny was forced to personally ring many companies. After numerous attempts, Braque was finally able to secure enough financial support to debut in the national Formula Ford championship. In this series, the Swede spends three years, winning in 1986 her junior championship.
Due to the continuing lack of funding, the transition to the older series was very slow: in 1988-91 he performed on the technique of Formula 3 and Formula Opel Lotus classes, winning several races. In 1992-93, he races in the Skip Barber racing school and several touring championships.
In the same 1993, it succeeds in securing significantly greater than before financial support. Kenny tests William F1 , and also finds a permanent place in one of the teams of the International F3000 . In the MCH F3000, Braque spends three seasons and in the second season is fighting for victory in the races. In 1996, he almost wins the championship, but excessive desire at the last stage of the season at the Hockenheimring leads to the fact that the Swede for dangerous aerobatics is deprived of victory and decisive points in the fight for the title.
Attempts to break into Formula 1 end with only a few more test sessions.
US Career
Not succeeding in Europe, Marriage goes to the New World, deciding to try his luck in the local "formula" series.
The services of a Swede are interested in one of the teams of the newly created Indy Racing League . After several test sessions, Kenny signs a contract with Rick Goles' team. Getting used to unfamiliar racing on oval tracks takes only a few steps. The talented pilot quickly attracted the attention of the leaders of the leading teams of the series: already in 1998 he began as part of the team of AJ Foyt Jr.
In 1998-99, Kenny, having gained new opportunities, regularly fights for victory in races. In 1998, he manages to win the title of champion of the series, and a year later, starting from eighth place, he wins in the main stage of the series: the legendary Indy 500 .
In 2000, the Swede’s career made another qualitative leap up: Bobby Reyhol invited the Swede to his team in the CART series. Getting used to a slightly different technique is quick enough and already in his debut season in the series, Kenny not only becomes the best newcomer and periodically fights for victory in races, but also turns out to be so stable that at the end of the season he takes fourth place in the standings, ahead of, among others, last year’s series champion and vice champion Juan Pablo Montoyu and Dario Franchitti .
In 2001, the Swede is already fighting for the title of series champion, but lack of stability and several optional gatherings (there was, for example, a gathering due to a collision with team-mate Max Papis , in a race where a pair of Rahal’s went to a confident double victory) leave Kenny on second in the overall standings, 36 points behind Gilles de Ferrand . In the offseason, Braque again changes the team, moving to the team of Chip Ganassi.
In a new place, Braque fails to establish itself in the role of lead pilot. His relatively inexperienced teammate Bruno Junqueira is more stable and is 50 points ahead of Kenny at the end of the season. In the offseason, the team did not renew the contract with the pilot.
In 2003, Kenny returned to Team Rahal , moving to her unit at IRL IndyCar . An insufficient level of support from the team and getting used to the new technology leads to not the best results: seven finishes outside Top10, not a single victory and only ninth place in the overall standings. In the last race of the season in Fort Worth, Braque had a serious accident: after a collision with Thomas Scheckter, his uncontrollable car crashed into a safety barrier. At the time of the collision with the wall, an overload of 214 g acted on the pilot. [3] Numerous fractures and spinal injuries knocked the Swede out of action for 18 months.
In 2005, Braque returned to the series for the farewell race: during preparation for the Indy 500, he replaces the injured Buddy Rice in the Rahal Letterman Racing . The Swede qualifies for the race, but goes off due to problems with the car.
Recent years
After completing a career in the United States, the performance of a Swede in competitions became very rare. Kenny periodically started in the rally: having won the corresponding tournament in X-Games in 2009; in 2011, he participated in several rallies in the UK and in Sweden with Emil Axelsson (the latter was won, and the first showed the best time at one of the special stages).
In 2011, Braque, along with Tom Christensen, held the RAC Tourist Trophy historic car race. Kenny qualified the 1964 AC Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupé on a pole that the Scandinavians later turned into a victory.
