The Astrakhan regiment , in which A.I. Malam served, was especially distinguished in the Battle of Borodino at one of the most dangerous sites, defending Bagration's flushes and the Semenovsky ravine. During the battle for this ravine, the French cavalrymen of the Latur-Mobur corps (total number of 30 squadrons) entered the battle with the remains of the Russian units defending the Bagration flashes. The cuirassiers of the Lorges division managed to break into the rear of the Russian guard regiments built in the square. To help the guardsmen, the cuirassiers of the brigade of Major General N.M. Borozdin arrived in time, and then the cavalrymen of the 4th Corps of General K.K. Sivers .
Their fearlessness was so strong, - reported the commander of the 2nd brigade of the 1st Cuirassier division (which included the Astrakhan cuirassier regiment ), Major General N. M. Borozdin, General Field Marshal Barclay de Tolly , reported about the actions of his cuirassier, which is also a big the decline of people and horses killed and wounded was not able to upset their ranks, closing each time in order. <...> Justice also requires witnessing that all of them [named in the award list], as well as the lower ranks, in this fierce battle, were so courageous that they seemed to decide to sacrifice their lives ...

The heroic counter-attacks of the Astrakhan cuirassiers against the heavy French cavalry led to the fact that the French were thrown back over the ravine. The cost of these attacks and what the enemy’s resistance was in this battle is indicated by the losses suffered by the Astrakhan cuirassier regiment: 95 out of 563 people survived after the battle. Aristarch Ilyich, although at the most tender age (five years), lost his untimely death of his beloved father, in contrast to many freethinkers of his time, he was an Orthodox man and a deeply religious person. Throughout the war, he prayerfully wore a parental blessing on his chest: a two-sided icon of the Savior and His Most Holy Mother. On the silver frame of this icon, at the end of the war, Aristarkh Ilyich, in gratitude to God and as a warning to posterity, engraved the inscription on the sides of the icon:
“In the campaign and in the General Srazhenіyakh the breasts of Aristarchus of Malama were found. Prestravnѣ 1 With a birch bark 2 pre lyutsyn 1 bautsyn 2 dresden 1 kulm 2 leipzig 3 brynen 1 trua 1 barsirob 1 labrezel 1 rent 1 ferry 1 Paris 2.
The portrait of A. I. Malama, as one of the participants in the Battle of Borodino, is placed in Modzalevsky’s Little Russian Genealogy along with A. S. Miloradovich.
